This Korean dish is so yummy and packed with a spicy flavor. You might notice that we don’t use the red hot Korean chili paste (gochujang) in this recipe as a lot of recipes out there typically do. This is a very simple recipe that still packs a lot of flavors, but is slightly different than the traditional Korean spicy stir-fried squid. You can add more or less hot red chili pepper flakes (gochugaru) to your taste. Since we aren’t using Korean red hot chili paste (gochujang), this recipe is not going to have any sweetness to it and instead has a spicy and salty flavor profile.

Ingredients needed to make Korean Spicy Stir-Fried Squid

Let’s make this Korean Spicy Stir-Fried Squid

Step 1: Prepare & clean the squid

Cut squid in half lengthwise and remove cartilage inside the squid. Also, scrape the squid legs with the back of the knife and rinse squid with cold water.

Cut squid into ½ inch wide pieces and set it aside.

Step 2: Make the spicy sauce

Now let’s make the sauce mixture. Combine the minced garlic, dry chili pepper flakes (gochugaru), black pepper, salt, fish sauce, soy sauce, sesame seed oil, and sesame seeds in a bowl. Tip: Set it aside and place it within easy reach because it doesn’t take long for the squid to cook once it hits the hot pan.

Step 3: Prepare the green onions

Prepare the green onions. Cut the green onions into 1” length sized pieces and set it aside for the last step.

Step 4: Let’s start stir-frying

Turn on the stove and turn the heat to high. Once the pan is heated, add avocado oil to the pan.

Add squid to the pan and stir fry for 1 minute.

Add the sauce mixture and stir fry for another minute. Turn off the stove and remove the pan from heat.

Add green onions to the pan and stir once. Serve and enjoy!
